New Year’s

I don’t know about you, but when I think of New Year’s Eve, I usually think fireworks. But it’s kind of hard to incorporate fireworks into your New Year’s Eve and New Year’s celebrations. That’s what the T.V. is for, right?

There are some cool and festive things you can do with (you guessed it) flowers! Doing a little research online will bring you to some pretty cool information about the meanings behind some of the traditions of “New Year’s” flowers. Below is our favorite example.

Pine, Bamboo, and Plum

Since 960 BC, the Japanese have called these three plants The Three Friends of Winter. When everything else is dormant, Pine and Bamboo remain green, and Plum is the first to bloom at the end of winter. Thus, these three plants have become a New Year’s symbol for fortitude and uprightness in adverse conditions.

Each individual plant also has its own meanings. Pine alone stands for nobility and venerability. Bamboo symbolizes humility and fidelity. The plum is emblematic of perseverance and purity. Here’s a lovely example of an arrangement with pine and bamboo.

New Year’s celebrations are a symbol of looking forward to what the New Year will bring. It is a time for reflection, fun, and celebration that we have yet another year before us full of good things.

So this year, forget the fireworks and go with something perhaps a little more meaningful!

Happy New Year!
